Austria, like most countries, has its own special peculiarities when it comes to address data. As this repeatedly causes problems for most online stores in the e-commerce sector when delivering shipments, we want to provide the best possible support here as a service provider.
In Austria, approx. 20,000 addresses due to changes in zip codes, street names or house numbers. In addition, there are houses that can be correctly addressed with up to five different addresses (ident addresses). Local addresses of customers often do not officially exist (source: Österreichische Post AG - Convenient shipping - PostAG) In order to keep the error rate as low as possible as a sender, you need the best possible address data.
For this reason, we expect to be able to offer the Austrian Post as a data provider for Austria. We are very much looking forward to this cooperation!
Here are a few examples of why shipping to/from Austria is particularly fun ;-):
Street names
Street names often have historical or geographical references (e.g. „Mariahilfer Straße“ or „Dr.-Karl-Lueger-Ring“) and are therefore often quite long. Variations occur with abbreviations such as Dr. (for doctor) and Ing. (for engineer) because everyone spells it the way they think is correct. And with the peculiarities and length of street names, the potential for errors inevitably increases.
House numbers
House numbers can contain additions such as a, b, c (e.g. „15a“) or be supplemented by slashes to identify buildings or staircases (e.g. „15/2/3“ for house number 15, staircase 2, door 3).
Exciting, isn't it? 😉
This now leads us to the „favorite topic“ (cough cough) of many of our customers:
Stairs and door numbers
In apartment buildings, it is usual to specify the staircase (stairway) and the door number. Example:
„Hauptstraße 15/2/3“ means house number 15, staircase 2, door 3.
For Austrian online stores, this is of course daily business. But many stores from Germany also ship to Austria, and of course they are not always entirely familiar with floor/staircase/door. Thanks to the Austrian Post database, our customers will be as well prepared as possible in future!
So that everyone is happy - you, your customers and also those who are out and about on the delivery front every day.
