New Magento 2 Extension: Automatic Address Validation in the Backend

Release News Graphic: New M2 Backend Plugin for Magento 2 Now Available

We are pleased to introduce a new endereco extension for Magento 2: Version 1.0.0 is now available.

The expansion was developed in collaboration with Parc Network, an agency specializing in Magento, developed it.

What does the extension do?

Unlike our well-known checkout extension for Magento 2, this new plugin operates in the backend: It automatically checks the shipping address of incoming orders via the endereco API. Orders with problematic addresses are held for review, ensuring that incorrect addresses never make it to the shipping process in the first place. This keeps your order processing smooth and reduces the number of failed deliveries.

Features

  • Automatic Verification of Incoming Orders: A cron job checks for new orders with the configured order status and sends the shipping address to the endereco API.
  • Hold orders for review if necessary: If an address is ambiguous, contains additional information, or if the API returns a status code classified as critical, the order is automatically placed on hold.
  • Optional AutoCorrect: Specific API corrections can be automatically applied to the native Magento address fields.
  • Full Traceability: The original address, the API suggestion, and the manual correction are stored in a separate table for each order.
  • CSV Export: Validated addresses can be exported directly from the order grid, with freely configurable column mapping.
  • Configurable Sharpness Settings: You decide which API status codes should put an order on hold and which ones can be corrected automatically.

Here's how it works

  1. A cron job checks for new orders with the configured order status.
  2. Each shipping address is sent to the endereco API for verification.
  3. Depending on the result, the extension either holds the order for manual review or automatically corrects the address, provided that "Auto-Overwrite" is enabled.
  4. All results—the original address, the API suggestion, and any manual corrections—are saved.

Orders held for review can be viewed and edited directly in the Magento admin panel under Sales → Orders: The extension displays the address suggested by the API; you can correct it if necessary and then release the order.

Requirements

  • Magento 2.4 or later
  • An active endereco account with a valid API key (available here)
  • Enabled cron jobs in your Magento installation

Installation

The extension can be installed via a ZIP file or through Composer. Important for live stores: When running setup:upgrade the parameter --keep-generated Set this so that there is no brief downtime during the update:

php bin/magento setup:upgrade --keep-generated

You can find the complete installation instructions, including the Composer version, in the GitHub repository.

Recommendation for Getting Started

We recommend creating a custom order status for orders held for review (e.g., „Address Validation Pending“) instead of using Magento’s default “Hold” status. This makes it easy to filter affected orders in the order grid and export them specifically. You can find details on this in the documentation in the repository.
