The following address conventions are rarely included in standard forms. However, you'll come across them regularly in everyday life in Italy.

Province Abbreviations

Italy is divided into 20 regions, which are in turn subdivided into provinces, metropolitan areas, autonomously administered provinces, and municipal consortia. This results in a total of about 100 different two-letter abbreviations—including, for example, RM for Rome, Wed for Milan, TO for Turin, NA for Naples, FI for Florence, VE for Venice, BZ for Bolzano.

Bilingualism in South Tyrol

In the province of Bolzano (BZ), addresses are officially bilingual. Bolzano means in German Bolzano and Via Roma becomes Rome Road. Accept Italian systems both spellings as equivalent.
